The Musée de l'Amérique Francophone the oldest museum in Canada, has
its roots in European religious and educational traditions. Located in a
building that is part of the Séminaire de Québec site, founded by
Monseigneur de Laval in 1663, it is a witness and herald of a colourful
past, worthy of the world's greatest epics.
Its first collection of scientific instruments intended for educational
purposes dates back to 1806. Through the years, numerous collections were
assembled, such as ancient coins and medals, mineralogy, geology,
numismatic, zoology, and botanical collections, as well as fossils,
paintings, ethnology and ancient books. Today, these unique witnesses to
the past are part of a collection entrusted to the Musée de la
civilisation, of which the Musée de l'Amérique francaise has been a
component since 1995.

Essentially turned towards history, the Museum now sets up exhibitions and
organizes numerous other activities examining of the settlement and
development of French culture on the North American continent.
These exhibitions and activities are an invitation to relive the great
adventure of the French people in America, to look into their actions large
ans small, to dwell on their way of life, to understand the spirit that was
their driving force. A full grasp of our heritage, a heritage that bears
witness to the determination and dynamism of millions of peolpe, sheds
light on the present and future of every Québecer, both individually and
collectively.
