Warsaw Uprising Monument

Warsaw Uprising Monument

Unveiled Aug 1 1989, on the 45th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. It consists of two groups of sculptures representing soldiers fighting on the barricades and coming down to the sewage channels. The entrance to one of the sewers is located on the monument.

Resistance fighters took guns and material from the Nazis. Colored bands on the captured helmets distinguished these fighters (as shown in the monument) from the Nazis.
