Diefenbaker Statue
John George Diefenbaker, PC, CH, QC (1895–1979) led Canada
as its 13th Prime Minister, serving from June 57, to
April 63. He was the only Progressive Conservative (PC, or Tory) party
leader between 1930 and 1979 to lead the party to an election victory, doing so
three times, although only once with a majority of the seats in the Canadian
House of Commons.
This statue was initiated by an Act of Parliament, and Leo Mol was
chosen from 21 submissions to sculpt the piece that dedicated in 1985, and
stands immediately north of the West Block.
