Vauquelin monument

Vauquelin monument

Nelson's monument to a British victory over France in a city that is predominantly French-speaking, has garnered its share of controversy. In 1930, residents responded by erecting a statue commemorating Jean Vauquelin, a French sailor during the Seven Years' War, in nearby Vauquelin Square.

The monument to Jean Vauquelin (1728-1772) by Paul-Eugène Benet was unveiled on June 22, 1930.
