Statue of General Patton
The standing portrait statue of General George Smith
Patton, Jr., designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser, was
installed at the Charles River Esplanade along the Hatch
Shell Circle in 1953. The 8-foot tall bronze statue depicts
a uniformed Patton raising a pair of binoculars up to his
eyes, atop a 4-foot pink granite base.
General George Smith Patton, Jr., (1885-1945) is
considered one of the greatest figures in military history,
serving in World War I, and commanding corps and armies
across World War II. He was also well known for his brash
aggressive behavior and controversial outspokenness.
