Mission House
John Sergeant, first missionary to the Stockbridge Indians, built
this simple frame house for his bride, Abigail, in 1739. According to
legend, its striking Connecticut doorway was brought to Stockbridge by
ox-team over a wilderness trail.
Moved to its present site in 1928 and restored, the Mission House
is filled with period furnishings, including a bookcase and chairs
belonging to Sergeant. In the colonial garden surrounding the house
grow herbs and bright perennials.
