Grande Allée Drill Hall
Grande Allée Drill Hall, Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury, back, used
as the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham
The year 2014 marks the 75th anniversary of the Discovery Pavilion of
the Plains of Abraham, built in 1938-39 to house the Federal Arsenal's
inspector of arms and ammunition. The Royal Candian Navy also moved in
here in May 1947, eventually taking over the entire building, changing
its name to HCMS Montcalm after the local naval reserve unit. The
architecture is modelled on the Loire Valley châteaux of France. It
was designated Classified Federal Heritage Building in 1992 and
responsibility for it was transferred to The National Battlefields
Commission in 1996.
