John Paul Jones House

A National Historic Landmark. Captain John Paul Jones lived here while supervising the outfitting of The Ranger (1777) and America (1781) for the Continental Navy.

Godfrey Purcel's widow boarded John Paul Jones in this building, built in 1761, while his ships Ranger (1777) and America (1781) were outfitted at the Langdon yards. Often featured in Sears paint commercials, the building has been home to the Portsmouth Historical Society since 1922.
