Myoshinji Temple complex
Headquarters of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect,
Myoshinji is a vast, imposing Zen temple complex south of Ryoanji
consisting of over forty sub-temples including the beautiful gardens
of Taizo-in and Kano school paintings at Reiun-in. The temple also has
Japan's oldest bell cast in 698.
Free Admission to the main precincts; fees for the sub-temples.
Bus #10 from Keihan Sanjo station or Myoshinji Station on the Keifuku
Kitano Line from Kitano Hakubaicho station.
This is where th famous Kyoto Kirishitan Church Bell is kept.
Myoshiji Abbots acquired the bell in the 16th century when the
Kirishitan church next to the Imperial Palace was burned and residents
persecuted.
